SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES

The Heritage Emergency Fund (HEF) has approved funding for a second phase of the project “ Urgent interventions for the reinforcement of security at cultural heritage sites, museums, and collections at risk in the North-West and Far North regions of Cameroon  ”. The HEF is a multi-donor funding mechanism that enables the Organization to respond quickly and effectively to crises caused by armed conflict and natural or man-made disasters anywhere in the world. UNESCO strives to achieve this goal by strengthening the capacity of Member States to prevent, mitigate and overcome the loss of cultural heritage and diversity in emergencies and by advocating for the integration of cultural protection into humanitarian action, security strategies and peace-building processes, including leveraging the capacity of culture to build resilience and support recovery.

Under the general authority of the UNESCO Regional Director for Central Africa and the direct supervision of the Specialist and Head of the Culture Sector in Central Africa, the Culture Project Assistant will carry out the following tasks:

Project implementation

  • Ensure the overall monitoring of the implementation of the project “  Urgent interventions for the reinforcement of security at cultural heritage sites, museums, and collections at risk in the North-West and Far North regions of Cameroon  ”;
  • Prepare and update a project work plan;
  • Ensure compliance with deadlines and the quality of the deliverables of the consultants and experts involved in the implementation of the project;
  • Ensure the preparation of concept notes, briefings, presentations, analytical notes and all documents developed for the project in accordance with UNESCO and HEF requirements;
  • Ensure a watch on the risks around the implementation of the project and submit for decision the possible actions if necessary;
  • Provide regular progress reports and prepare an overall project implementation report with clear recommendations.

Partnership and resource mobilization

  • Liaise with the Ministry of Arts and Culture, other government institutions, relevant national, local and traditional authorities as well as communities around the targeted cultural sites to ensure the effective implementation of the project.
  • Contribute to the identification of new activities and projects related to cultural heritage by providing technical support for the development of projects and the identification of potential funding partners.

Knowledge and information management

  • Develop and implement project communication to increase visibility of HEF and key project results in line with project objectives
  • Ensure the sharing of project-related information and knowledge with beneficiaries, development partners, humanitarian agencies and donors.
  • Support the implementation of the Culture Sector knowledge management system through the coordination and development of strategic briefing materials
  • Support the work of the Culture sector at the UNESCO Office in Yaoundé and contribute as a team member to the activities.
  • Perform any additional duties required and assigned by the Area Manager

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in the field of culture, social sciences, humanities, political science, international relations or a related discipline.

Professional experience

  • At least four (4) years of relevant professional experience in the field of culture.
  • Professional experience in the United Nations system and/or in the field of international relations and diplomacy, multilateral cooperation and development.
  • Proven experience in project management and resource mobilization.

Languages

  • Excellent knowledge of English or French (written and spoken) and good knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of one of the 2 local working languages ??of the areas targeted by the project would be an asset.
