Job description
The Forest-Environment Programme (PFE) is a bilateral project implemented by GIZ, supporting the sustainable management of forest resources in Cameroon. Through its component “development of non-timber forest-products (NTFP) value chains” it aims to improve the sustainable valorisation of forest products in order to generate income and improve livelihoods. Thereby, alternative incomes from NTFP can reduce the pressure on forest resources and increase their appreciation. One of the component’s objectives is to increase the effectiveness of the management bodies of NTFP networks and cooperatives, to strengthen their skills in decision-making, management and monitoring of their activities and to develop a common understanding of the legal and normative framework.
Your tasks
- Consultation of the NTFP network (in the Eastern, Central and Northern regions) and identification of their needs for capacity development regarding their institutional performance
- Organisation of trainings based on the identified needs
- Reinforcement of capacities of the managing bodies of the networks
- Support of the networks and their members in understanding and shaping their mandate
- Assistance in planning, budgeting and monitoring the network activities
- Joint development of strategies to improve internal and external communication and to defend the interests of the network’s members more effectively
- Contribution to the knowledge management of the programme
Your profile
- Master’s degree in social science or management or a similar qualification
- At least 3 years of relevant work experience is required
- Experience in organisational development and/ or change management
- Experience in management of organisations/ networks/ projects
- Experience in participatory approaches and adult education would be an advantage
- Curiosity about living abroad and working in a different cultural context
- Team spirit and sensitivity to a multi-player collaboration, high adaptability to difficult contexts
- Good knowledge of French is required, good knowledge of German and/ or English is an advantage
- In addition you hold the German nationality or the nationality of a member state of the European Union.
Location information
- Place of residence: Likely Bertoua, possibly Garoua/ Quartier plateau/ North Cameroon or Yaoundé
- Climate: Warm climate with one rainy season (May – September); temperature between 28° - 40°C°
- Healthcare: There exist basic medical services provided by local specialist doctors and private health clinics
- Supply and shopping facilities: Basic items for the daily needs are locally available, European goods/ products are available
- Accessibility: City roads and overland routes are in a reasonable condition. Flights are not regular. Transport in the town is mainly by moto-taxi
- Children: The location Bertoua is not suitable for children
In general, the security situation is calm. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times. Please also check the county-specific information provided by the German Federal Foreign Office. GIZ runs a professional security risk management system in the field of deployment. The working environment is subject to special restrictions on the freedom of movement. GIZ does not impose any restrictions on life partners and family members to move with you to the country of deployment. - Your work will begin with an onboarding and preparation phase that will give you initial insights into GIZ and lay the groundwork for your upcoming assignment, establishing new contacts and building up your network,
- Extensive check-ups and preventive measures (e.g. on appointment, before the outward journey, during the stay in a country of assignment, in an emergency) are provided to our staff and the family members accompanying them as a matter of course.
- As a development worker, you can use the project vehicle for trips to school or to visit a doctor or can receive a monthly lump-sum mobility allowance instead. The project vehicle can also be used for personal trips with your manager’s approval.
- As well as your basic living allowance, as a development worker you will also receive extensive additional benefits during your assignment (including a foreign service premium, family allowances, private group health insurance).
- To enable you to get ready for your assignment as a development worker and your outward journey, you will be given outward journey leave following your preparation time in Germany.
- We will cover a large portion of the childcare costs for dependent children under 14 who are accompanying you if your partner is not doing so and is not a development worker or integrated expert themselves. Most nursery and school fees are paid.
- We will reimburse you for your rental costs based on the rent index for your country as well as paying you an equipment and furnishing allowance on top.
- You and the members of your family accompanying you will be covered by our health and liability insurance, while your family members will also benefit from accident insurance. In countries in crisis, we operate a comprehensive risk management system for your protection, which minimises personal dangers and risks.
