Description

The Organisation

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.

We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it’s girls who are most affected.

Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.

We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for – and respond to – crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.

We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 80 years, and are now active in more than 70 countries.

Child sponsorship is the foundation of the organization.

Over the last decade, the countries around the Lake Chad have experienced unprecedented levels of crises, exacerbated by repeated incidences of violence by Boko Haram. More than 2.4 million people have been forcibly displaced; they now live as IDPs or as refugees, either in camps or in host communities across the region. There are immense challenges faced by governments: in delivering peace and stability, and in ensuring that the pace and benefits of growth keep up with the expansion of the most youthful population in the region, regarding this project (youth engage in stabilization effort in the Lac Chad Region), youth will be engaged in a mapping and monitoring exercise of basic services and causal peace factors, resulting in

a) user-friendly map-based platform and

b) youth will be empowered as active agents of change, promoting a peaceful co-existence at local level and beyond, claiming their rights as right-holders.

The action is firmly anchored in a rights-based approach with emphasis on building the capacity and knowledge base of right-holders, more specifically the youth, empowering them to claim their rights as well as to create awareness amongst duty bearers on the importance of valuing youth activism and participation in peace building and community development.
