Created as a unique pan-African continental organization, the African Union is responsible for leading the process of rapid integration and sustainable development of Africa by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation between African peoples and states, as well as by establishing a new partnership with other regions of the world. The Headquarters of the African Union is established in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.
The Pan African University (UPA) is a continental university and research institution created by the African Union, based on the following guiding principles: freedom, autonomy, university accountability, quality assurance, strengthening of African higher education institutions existing second and third cycles to enable them to serve the entire continent, to demonstrate excellence in international partnership in university and research activities, equality and parity between men and women at all levels and in all university functions.
In order to contribute to the emergence and strengthening of higher education and a research platform in Africa, the UPA is made up of 5 thematic institutes housed by existing institutions located in the five geographic regions of the African Union , to know :
i. Life and earth sciences (including health and agriculture), established at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria for West Africa;
ii. Basic sciences, technology and innovation, established at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in Kenya for East Africa;
iii. Governance, Human and Social Sciences, established at the University of Yaoundé II in Cameroon for Central Africa;
iv. Water and energy sciences (including climate change), established at the University of Tlemcen in Algeria for North Africa; and V. Space sciences, established at the University of Cape Town in South Africa for Southern Africa.
Organization
The UPA also aims to promote African integration through the mobility of students, teaching and administrative staff, collaborative research linked to the challenges faced by African countries, the establishment of an appropriate framework to allow African diaspora to contribute to the development of higher education and research in Africa, the promotion of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research programs related to decision-making processes, the promotion of productive goods with the industrial sector for innovation and dissemination of new knowledge, maximum use of information and communication technologies for education, research and management.The UPA takes into account the fundamental principles of the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
With a view to achieving the mandate and objectives of the UPA, the African Union intends to strengthen the human resources of the UPA by filling all vacant posts. The African Union Commission invites the citizens of the Member States to submit their candidatures for the post of Secretary within the Rectorate of the Pan African University (UPA) in Yaoundé (Cameroon).

2- Job description:
- Provide secretarial and administrative support services to the RPA rectorate for efficient operation.
Project
3- Main functions and responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Rector of the UPA, the Secretary is responsible, among other things, for ensuring the following tasks:
• Capture and correct documents, reports, correspondence, messages, inquiries, etc. who may be required by his superiors;
• Receive current correspondence and prepare responses for signature by supervisors;
• Receive guests / visitors / staff members and provide them with basic information on relevant issues and procedures;
• Maintain an appropriate filing and recording system for all incoming and outgoing mail and documents;
• Answering and filtering phone calls and electronic messages and following up with supervisors and partners;
• Maintain an updated schedule of appointments for supervisors and other managers in the Division;
• Ensure proper maintenance of equipment and report any faults for maintenance purposes and other actions
Tasks required
• Provide daily administrative services to the various services of the Division;
• Provide reception services, if necessary;
• Perform any other relevant function that may be assigned to it.

5. Qualifications and professional experience required
The candidate must have at least a diploma in administrative services, office management, secretarial and administrative studies, with relevant experience of at least 5 years in secretarial work within a governmental or public organization or an international organization.
A bachelor's degree in social sciences would be an asset.
6. Knowledge of languages
The candidate must be fluent in English and / or French. Thorough knowledge of one or more other working languages would be an asset.

7. Duration of the contract
The engagement in this position is done on the basis of a regular contract for a period of three years, the first twelve months of which will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract is renewable for a period of two years, subject to satisfactory results and achievements.

10. Remuneration:
As an indication, the base salary for this position is US $ 12,834.00 (GSA4) per year. In addition to this salary, there are other emoluments, such as post allowance (48% of basic salary), accommodation allowance (US $ 16,813.44 per year), travel allowance studies (100% of school fees and other related costs up to a maximum of US $ 10,000 per child per year), for international officials of the African Union Commission.
