Overview of the position:

• To supervise all Medical Waste Management staff & ensure that appropriate & safe practices are used in the handling, movement of solid waste & water waste as well as providing supervision to the concerned staff in a medical environment.

Role objective:

• To ensure that Team Leaders are enforcing with staff the most appropriate & safe methods of collecting, handling & disposing of a range of medical waste materials from the premises.
• To provide supervision & guidance to the Medical Waste Management Team Leaders / Waste Management Medical Team Leaders on best practice delivery of services in their specific areas.
• Monitor practices & ensure that any violations or unsafe practices are addressed & appropriate training arranged.
• Delegating tasks to the Team Leaders & ensuring that all staff are completing their work to the highest standards.
• Collating accurate medical waste management reports across all functions in liaison with the departments Team leaders.

Project reporting:

• This role reports to the Supervisor.

Team management:

• This role does not have any team management responsibility.

Education:

• Completion of Secondary School education.

Work experience:

• Minimum of 5 years of demonstrable relevant medical waste management or relevant experience.

Language:

• Excellent knowledge of English or French (depending on the country of assignment). Working knowledge of another UN official language would be an asset.

Other skills:

• Excellent knowledge of MS Office applications. Demonstrated computer skills with emphasis on construction & 3D software.

Expert must understand & operate effectively in hazard emergency contexts, demonstrating knowledge of the international emergency response systems & disease outbreak environments.
• Communication: Expresses clearly in conversation & interaction with others. Produces effective written communications. Need strong communication & negotiation skills that can bring opposing opinions amongst a diverse array of stakeholders to an acceptable compromise.
