Description
The United Nations Center for Human Rights and Democracy in Central Africa, based in Yaoundé, Cameroon, was created at the request of member countries of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and the decision of the UN General Assembly by resolutions of December 5, 1998 (53/78) and December 1, 1999 (54/55).
The United Nations Center for Human Rights and Democracy in Central Africa (the Center) works specifically to promote and protect human rights and democracy in the 10 Central African countries (Burundi, Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe and Chad) through capacity building, advocacy, lobbying, dialogue, technical assistance and extensive advisory services to governments, parliaments, United Nations country teams, national human rights institutions, civil society organizations and the media, among others.
The Center offers two-month refresher scholarships renewable for a maximum of six months, intended for graduate students, young practitioners and human rights defenders holding a diploma in a field related to the activities of the Center in particular. human rights and gender; the democracy ; documentation, communication and advocacy; and administration and finance.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Regional Representative of the United Nations Center for Human Rights and Democracy in Central Africa and the direct supervision of the head of the Documentation, Communication and Advocacy Unit, the scholarship holder will have to accomplish the following tasks:
- Contribute to knowledge management through the preparation and implementation of the activities of the Documentation, Communication and Advocacy Unit, in particular through the daily management of the Documentation Center and assistance to users;
- Carry out background research and analysis on current affairs, and assess the impact on the situation of human rights and democracy in Central Africa;
- Contribute to the production, dissemination of the awareness-raising material produced or received by the Center, and ensure its inventory management;
- Provide practical support in carrying out the Centre's workshops or seminars, in particular through documentary research and training tools on human rights and democracy;
- Provide support in the organization of public events;
- Implement any task allowing the proper functioning of the Center, at the request of the Regional Representative or the head of the Unit.

Qualifications and Skills
- Be registered in a license year or have obtained a license for less than a year. The same goes for the Master degree in documentation and information science and techniques, or in another related field;
- Professional experience in knowledge management is highly desirable;
- Good writing, research, analysis and synthesis skills;
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure;
- Great adaptability and flexibility in the implementation of multiple and varied tasks;
- Client-oriented approach;
- Spirit of creativity;
- Perfect oral and written command of French and English;
- Good knowledge of computers including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the Internet.
