Description
The United Nations office in Cameroon is one of 40 UN country offices worldwide to implement reform, " Delivering as One ". Since June 2015, in order to obtain a greater impact on the ground and carry out results-oriented actions, the United Nations in Cameroon has engaged in a process of harmonization of procedures, operations, programs, communication. A new way of working together in order to provide better support to the Government of Cameroon.
The Resident Coordinator (CR) is the leader of the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and his role is to bring together the various United Nations agencies in order to improve the coherence and effectiveness of their action for development. from the country. It plays a central role at the country level coordinating the operational activities of the United Nations for development so that United Nations assistance is aligned with national development priorities and demand for capacity-building, in accordance with the treaties development goals.
The Resident Coordinator is the representative designated by the Secretary General, and responds to him through the Administrator of UNDP in his capacity as President of the United Nations Development Group (UNDG). The Resident Coordinator is accredited by the Secretary-General, by letter, to the Head of State or Government and acts as their direct interlocutor. The RC acts, on behalf of the United Nations System, impartially, ensuring a strategic position for the United Nations in each country. It supports and promotes the responsibilities of the United Nations for human rights-based programming and humanitarian law, including the responsibilities of United Nations entities and staff in this regard.
The Office of the Resident Coordinator (BCR) supports the Resident Coordinator and the United Nations Country Team to provide a coordinated and harmonized response to the development challenges of Cameroon. It is a consultative and coordinating entity whose mission revolves around the 10 basic coordination functions.
The BCR also supports the operationalization of the coordination mechanisms validated by the United Nations Country Team.
The 9 coordination functions
- Analysis and strategic planning
- Supervision of the United Nations programming cycle at the national level
- Representation and support of the UN secretariat and resident and non-resident agencies of the SNU
- Support to national coordination systems and processes
- Development and management of joint operational support services
- Management and preparation of responses to humanitarian crises
- External communication and advocacy
- Resource mobilization and fund management done jointly
- Supervision and overall management of the Country Team
Duties and Responsibilities
Communication
- Support the Office of the Resident Coordinator in the creation and management of communication tools for the visibility of the interventions of the United Nations Cameroon at national and international level
- Support the Office of the Resident Coordinator in the organization of communication activities and other events
- Support the program in the design of communication tools including in the administration of social networks
Tasks and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Communication Manager, the intern will perform the following tasks:
- Support in digital communication on joint SNU activities
- Support in the creation of SNU communication tools and supports;
- Support in the organization and holding of SNU activities / events;
- Support for the archiving of RCO files;
- Support for the preparation of internal or external meetings with partners, taking notes and writing reports;
Perform any other duties required by the supervisor

Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum required: to be currently enrolled in a higher education institution in the Bachelor year (Bac + 3 level) in Communication-Graphic Design / Project Management / International Relations / Journalism or to have graduated from a Bachelor's degree for less than a year in the areas mentioned
- Have at least 1 year of experience (internship, associative engagement…)
- Have a good command of IT tools and office software;
- Have a good command of social networks and other network applications (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Instagram, etc.);
- Have good notions in photography;
- Having a good knowledge of graphic design tools, image and video processing would be a plus;
- Have good writing skills;
- Have creativity, sense of initiative, teamwork, prioritization, autonomy, ability to work under pressure, versatility;
- Have a perfect command of the French or English language;
